Abstract

Career adaptability is a critical competency for police personnel, particularly for early-career non-commissioned officers (BRIPDA) who face dynamic and complex work demands. This study aims to examine the influence of family support and self-control on career adaptability among BRIPDA personnel in the Kulon Progo Police Department. A quantitative approach was employed, involving 248 participants aged between 18 and 28 years. Data were collected using the Career Adaptability Scale, Family Support Scale (Zimet et al., 1988), and Self-Control Scale (Tangney et al., 2004). The data were analyzed using simple and multiple linear regression techniques. The results indicate that family support has a positive and significant effect on career adaptability, with a contribution of 30.6% (R² = 0.306, p < .001). Similarly, self-control also shows a significant effect, contributing 28.6% (R² = 0.286, p < .001). More importantly, the combined effect of family support and self-control explains 65.9% of the variance in career adaptability (R² = 0.659, p < .001), indicating a substantial increase in explanatory power when both variables are considered simultaneously. These findings suggest that career adaptability is influenced by both external factors, such as family support, and internal factors, such as self-control. The study highlights the importance of integrating environmental support and psychological competencies to enhance adaptability among police personnel. The results provide both theoretical contributions to career construction theory and practical implications for human resource development within law enforcement institutions.
